The ava borderlands 4 introduction quest is the first major character beat after the prologue. Search interest broke out by ~30 percent over the last 30 days as more players reach this point. This is a story-heavy mission, but there are two missable rewards and one dialogue branch that affects companion banter later. We are an unofficial fan site, verified against Patch 1.4 (2026-04-22).

Type: Main mission
Region: Sanctuary IV, lower decks and Crimson docks
Level range: Lv 18-22
Recommended Vault Hunter: Harlowe (any works — story mission)
Estimated time: 45-60 minutes including dialogue

How to start

The mission auto-triggers when you fast-travel into Sanctuary IV after completing the prologue arc. Ava sends an ECHO before you even hit the docks. Walk to the marked waypoint on the lower decks. There is no way to refuse or delay this mission — it is gated story content. If the marker does not appear, your save did not register prologue completion; reload your last checkpoint.

Prerequisites:

  • Prologue complete (4 chapters)
  • Level 18 minimum (will scale up if higher)
  • Free inventory slot (you receive a quest item)

Step-by-step walkthrough

  1. Meet Ava on lower decks. Long dialogue scene. Choose “I trust your judgment” at the second prompt for the rep boost. The other choices do not lock you out, just lower starting rep.
  2. Crimson dock infiltration. Sneak past the patrols (or kill them — game does not care, despite Ava saying it does). Three guard towers. Disable the alarm console at the second tower; the first and third are decoys.
  3. Recover the data shard. Inside the warehouse, the shard is on the upper catwalk, not the obvious crate on the floor.
  4. Escort Ava back. This is the longest part. She walks slowly and stops to comment. Three ambush waves — at the gangway, at the rail bridge, and at the elevator.
  5. Confrontation with Vasquez. Mini-boss fight. He uses a riot shield; flank or use any piercing weapon. Ava participates and does meaningful damage.
  6. Resolution and reward. Back at Tannis’s lab. Pick up the Truthstrike pistol from the workbench — it does not auto-add to inventory.

Dialogue branch that matters

At the second dialogue prompt, the choice “I trust your judgment” locks in higher Sanctuary rep starting value (~+200) and unlocks one extra companion banter line in chapter 6. The other two choices (“I need proof” and “Not my problem”) do not break anything but you start with less rep.

  • Vault Hunter: Any. The ava borderlands 4 quest scales.
  • Primary: Mid-range AR or SMG — fight is mostly close-to-medium
  • Shield: Anything with a 3-second recharge or faster
  • Class mod: Whatever you have at Lv 18
  • Skill points: No respec needed

See Build Planner if you want a Harlowe loadout that carries you through this and the next two main missions.

Rewards

  • Truthstrike — Legendary pistol, guaranteed from the workbench
  • Sanctuary Rep — +600 (or +800 with the trust choice)
  • Ava as a side-quest giver — unlocks 4 follow-up missions
  • Eridium — 80 guaranteed

Common mistakes

  • Walking past the workbench at the end. The Truthstrike is on the bench, not in the chest. People miss it constantly.
  • Killing all the dock patrols. Ava complains in cutscene if you do, and you lose 100 rep. Stealth is faster anyway.
  • Disabling alarm console one or three. Both are decoys — the game does not warn you. Hit console two only.
  • Skipping the catwalk in the warehouse. The visible crate on the floor is empty.
